About Dämman Lighthouse
Constructed in 1873 on a small island in the Kalmarsund, Dämman lighthouse features a square cylindrical masonry tower standing 18 meters tall. The original structure was rebuilt and expanded in 1904. After ceasing operations in 1968, the lighthouse was restored in 1999 and reopened as a hotel and conference center. Further renovations by new owners in 2014 have enhanced its role as a venue for meetings and weddings. Accessible only by boat, the lighthouse complex now offers a unique destination for visitors.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's unique transformation into a hotel and conference center provides visitors with direct engagement with maritime history, making it a significant cultural and tourism asset.
