Dixie Range Front Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Dixie Range Front Lighthouse
Established in 1915, the Dixie Range Front light is an 8.5-meter concrete tower with a focal height of 7.5 meters. It is painted white with red bands at the top and bottom and is mounted on an octagonal concrete base atop a square concrete pier. The light displays a sequence of red, white, and green flashes every 6 seconds, covering a geographic range of 9.5 nautical miles. This structure marked a range 1069 meters southwest of its rear counterpart. In 2018, the original range light was updated and replaced by a Dixie Sector light.
Why it matters: This light ensures vessels remain within the designated shipping channel of the St. Lawrence River, aiding in the prevention of groundings and collisions.
