Location & Light Range
About Chenal du Vieux Fort Lighthouse
A 15-meter square skeletal tower, built of steel in 2019, stands 17.5 meters above sea level on an island about 5 km south of Vieux-Fort. It displays a red and white daymark and emits a white, red, and green light. The light characteristic is a single white, red, or green flash every 8 seconds. This modern structure replaced a pair of older range lights. The site is open to the public, but the tower is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guides vessels through a narrow passage into Baie du Vieux-Fort, replacing older range lights and ensuring safe entry for local fishing and recreational craft.
