About Cameron Island Lighthouse
The Cameron Island Lighthouse, built in 1903, is a square wooden tower standing 8.5 meters tall. Originally the front light of the Clarke Cove Range, it guided vessels through a narrow passage. This structure was relocated in 1977, at which time its lantern was removed. The lighthouse emits a green flash every 4 seconds from a focal height of 9 meters, offering a geographic range of 10 nautical miles. It is situated on the northeast end of Cameron Island, a small landmass within West Bay, the southwestern section of Bras d'Or Lake.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for guiding vessels through the constricted passage between Cameron Island and George Island, which leads to Marble Mountain.
