Bustard Rocks Westbound Range Front Lighthouse

This square pyramidal wood tower was constructed in 1875 and first lit the same year. Standing 6 meters tall with a focal height of 7 meters, it emits a white light with a single flash every 4 seconds, visible for 9.3 nautical miles. Painted white with red trim, the structure features a red lantern room. It is situated on a small rocky island west of Bustard Island, serving the approaches to the French River. The tower itself is closed to the public, though the surrounding site is accessible.

Why it matters: This lighthouse was essential for guiding vessels through the complex approaches to the French River. Its placement helped mariners avoid hazards in the Bustard Island area.
