Location & Light Range
About Bukkøya Lighthouse
A 6.5-meter fiberglass tower, painted white with two black horizontal bands and a red lantern roof, marks the eastern end of Bukkøya island. The light is situated 14 meters above sea level and has a geographic range of 11.6 nautical miles. This modern structure became operational in 2019, replacing an earlier lighthouse. Its light emits an occulting white, red, or green signal with a 6-second cycle. The tower is round and topped with a red lantern roof. The lighthouse is located near Vormedal in Karmøy municipality, within the Rogaland region.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is indispensable for safe navigation through the Karmsund, a narrow and busy waterway, helping vessels avoid hazards and maintain course through this constricted passage.
