About Bremstein Lighthouse
This cylindrical cast iron lighthouse, built in 1925, stands 27 meters tall on a small island 25 kilometers west of Gladstad in Nordland, Norway. Its tower is painted red with a single white horizontal band. The lighthouse emits a white flash every 15 seconds from a focal height of 40 meters, visible for over 17 nautical miles. Access to the site is by boat only, with the nearest port being Igeroy, 21.4 kilometers away. The keeper's house was leased by a preservation organization in 2010, leading to a €1.2 million restoration project completed in 2012. The lighthouse itself was repainted and refurbished in 2020.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guides vessels past hazards on the open sea, supporting the region's fishing fleet and coastal traffic.
