About Bovbjerg Lighthouse
Built in 1877, Bovbjerg Lighthouse is a cylindrical red brick tower with gray stone trim, standing 26 meters tall. It is attached to two 1-1/2 story brick keeper's houses, one of which has been updated to serve as a café. The lighthouse emits a white light with two flashes every 15 seconds, using its original 1st order Fresnel lens. This structure overlooks the sea south of Ferring, near Lemvig Municipality. Its focal height reaches 62 meters, providing a geographic range of 20.4 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, and visitors can access the tower seasonally.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is notable for its continued operation with its original 1st order Fresnel lens, a rare piece of historical optical technology. It serves as a navigational marker for vessels along the Danish coast.
