It features an open lantern and is located on the east side of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, just south of the Eighth Avenue-Plymouth Avenue Bridge. The lighthouse marks the entrance to a small basin opposite the landing for river cruise ships. Situated within Boom Island Park, a former lumber camp, it provides a focal height of 17 meters with a geographic range of 12.4 nautical miles. The light emits a white flash and is operational, though the tower itself is closed to the public while the site remains open.
