Bogø Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Bogø Lighthouse
Built in 1895, Bogø Lighthouse is a rectangular, two-story concrete building situated at the western tip of Bogø island. Its light was displayed through a large window on the seaward side. The structure stands 7 meters tall and is painted white with a single red horizontal band. For nearly a century, it marked the western entrance to the Grønsund, the waterway separating Bogø from Falster. Although it ceased operations in 1985, the lighthouse was restored and repainted in 2015. It is now open to the public and offers overnight stays.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for navigating the western entrance of the Grønsund, facilitating safe passage for local maritime traffic. Its distinctive architecture as a two-story concrete building, rather than a traditional tower, makes it a unique coastal structure.
