A cylindrical brick tower stands 6.5 meters tall, with a black lantern atop its white structure. The lighthouse was originally established in 1857 on Green Island in Blue Hill Bay, Maine. A skeleton tower was constructed in 1935. The original 1857 structure, a white cylindrical tower with an attached keeper's residence, remains near the current light. The light itself is green. The lighthouse is also known as Sand Island Light or Eggemoggin Light.
