About Belleville Lighthouse
The Belleville lighthouse, established in 1881, once served the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario. This structure guided vessels approaching the port of Belleville, located just 0.2 kilometers away. The original lighthouse was operational for approximately 60 years before its decommissioning and destruction around 1941. No original structure remains at the site today. A modern beacon now marks the location on a marina breakwater, continuing the navigational function.
Why it matters: The lighthouse played a role in guiding maritime traffic through the Bay of Quinte, a historically important shipping route on Lake Ontario.
