Barre à Boulard Range Front Lighthouse

The Barre à Boulard Range Front light, operational since 1992, is a square skeletal mast standing 18.5 meters tall. It carries an orange slatted daymark with a vertical black stripe, designed to guide vessels navigating the St. Lawrence estuary. This light sits atop a steep bluff about 8 kilometers northeast of Lotbinière, offering a focal height of 52 meters with a geographic range of 19 nautical miles. The station was established in 1899, with the front light initially located on an islet. By 1968, the front light had moved to the original rear light tower, before the current structure was established in 1992.

Why it matters: This range light is indispensable for safe navigation on the St. Lawrence estuary, specifically guiding vessels bound downstream through the critical 90-degree bend at Pointe Platon.
