About Barcelona Lighthouse
Constructed in 1829, the Barcelona Lighthouse stands 12 meters tall with its focal plane at the same elevation. This structure, originally known as Portland Harbor Light, overlooks Barcelona Harbor on Lake Erie. It ceased operations at some point after its initial lighting in 1829. The lighthouse is located within the Town of Westfield, New York. Its position also placed it in the path of totality for the 2024 solar eclipse, experiencing 3 minutes and 43 seconds of darkness.
Why it matters: The Barcelona Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its location also made it a point of interest during the 2024 solar eclipse.
