Every night for several weeks, a convoy of 15 to 20 tankers has been moving through the Strait of Hormuz under US military cover, carrying oil the global market cannot get any other way.
US Air Force aircraft fly overhead during each transit. CENTCOM has struck Iranian radar installations along the route. On one night, American forces shot down eight drones and two cruise missiles. The corridor runs through the southern end of the strait, close to the Omani coast.
Axios reported the covert operation on August 19. About 10 million barrels of oil per day now transit the passage, roughly half the pre-war flow.
American forces have been intercepting attacks on multiple nights. CENTCOM's radar strikes have reduced, but not ended, the incoming fire.
