South Africa Seeks Operator for New LNG Terminal at Port of East London

Port of East London, Eastern Cape, September 16. Transnet National Ports Authority issued a request for bids to build and operate a liquefied natural gas import terminal in the port's West Bank precinct.

The facility is planned at small to medium scale. A private operator would design, finance, construct and run it for 25 years, then transfer the assets to the state. Incoming LNG would arrive by vessel; outgoing supply would move by pipeline and road truck.

Bids close February 22, 2027. Port of East London sits on South Africa's Indian Ocean coast, a stretch that recently saw traffic multiply when the Strait of Hormuz closed and global shipping rerouted to the Cape route.
