The containership Maersk Gironde and the car carrier SFL Composer collided in the Danish Straits near the island of Funen overnight on August 4. Both ships were damaged above the waterline. No crew members were hurt.
The Maersk Gironde, a 4,544-TEU containership, was sailing from Wilhelmshaven in Germany to Gdansk, Poland when the collision happened. The SFL Composer sustained a large hole and dent on its hull. Both ships anchored safely after the impact.
The Danish Maritime Authority detained both ships for inspection. The cause of the collision is not yet known.
