Incat’s Battery-Electric Giant Loaded onto Black Marlin, Bound for Argentina

The world's largest battery-electric ship has left Hobart aboard the heavy lift ship Black Marlin. It is headed for South America.

Incat Tasmania's Hull 096 is a 130-metre catamaran ferry built for Argentine operator Buquebus. Named China Zorrilla, it will run between Buenos Aires and Colonia del Sacramento. The ship carries 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles. Its batteries weigh more than 250 tonnes.

Loading in the River Derwent required Black Marlin to ballast below the waterline so Hull 096 could be floated onto its deck. Black Marlin then deballasted to raise it clear. The operation completed in late July. Final preparations for departure were under way as of early August.
