A container ship ran aground in the Chattogram port channel on August 3 after its steering system failed. The ship, MV CNC Uranus, lost control while passing through the channel. No one was injured.
Tugboats were deployed to assist. According to one report, the grounding happened at around 2:15 PM local time, when the ship struck a retaining wall near the river mouth. The incident temporarily disrupted port traffic in the channel.
