Carnival Panorama passenger missing after going overboard in the Pacific

A 56-year-old male passenger went overboard from the Carnival Panorama overnight on 19 September as the cruise ship sailed from Puerto Vallarta toward Long Beach. His family reported him missing the next morning. The cruise ship was on the final day of a seven-night Mexican Riviera voyage.

Crew reviewed surveillance footage and confirmed the passenger was gone. US and Mexican authorities were notified. The US Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Center in Alameda coordinated the search, deploying fixed-wing aircraft while Mexican Navy units and commercial ships covered the waters off Mexico's Pacific coast.

Passengers were confined to staterooms while crew ran a headcount. The cruise ship altered course to assist before resuming its passage to Long Beach.

As of 22 September the man had not been found. His identity had not been released. He had been traveling with family members on the cruise, which had called at several Mexican Riviera ports before heading north. The search ended without a recovery. An earlier Carnival voyage produced a different outcome: Carnival Conquest pulled a sailor from the sea after 10 days at sea in the Caribbean.
