Background
Maarhuizen is een gehucht in de gemeente Het Hogeland in de Nederlandse provincie Groningen. Het ligt ten noordwesten van Winsum en ten noorden van het Mensingeweersterloopdiep. Over dit kanaal ligt de til (brug) Maarhuistertil en iets zuidelijker de voetgangersbrug Nieuwe Maarhuistertil. Het trekpad aan de overkant van het kanaal is onderdeel van het Pieterpad. Het Wad- en Wierdenpad loopt van het trekpad over de brug naar het noorden. Over de wierde liep tussen de boerderijen door lange tijd de provinciale weg tussen Winsum en Mensingeweer. Sinds het omleggen van deze weg in 2016 ligt Maarhuizen aan een doodlopende weg.
