Zeughoek Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Zeughoek Lighthouse
The Zeughoek lighthouse is a square steel skeletal tower with a gallery, standing 14 meters tall and with a focal height of 15 meters. Originally first lit in 1930, the current structure was built in 1969. An earlier lighthouse, established at this site in 1930, had been moved from Den Oever. The operational lighthouse emitted a single white occulting flash every 5 seconds, with a geographic range of 11.9 nautical miles. It was deactivated in 2009. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: The relocation of an earlier lighthouse to this site in 1930 and its subsequent replacement in 1969 demonstrate the evolving needs of coastal navigation infrastructure.
