About Enkhuizen Lighthouse
Also known as: Enkhuizen (Range Rear)
An octagonal pyramidal cast iron skeletal tower with a gallery and lantern, the Enkhuizen lighthouse stands 14 meters tall. Built in 1888, it is located at the end of the south breakwater, marking the entrance to Enkhuizen's old harbor. The tower features black legs and gallery with white cross-members. Although deactivated as a primary navigational aid in 1932, a continuous red light has recently been displayed from one of its legs. The site is accessible to the public, but the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: Its unique octagonal skeletal design makes it a distinctive architectural landmark. The lighthouse serves as a symbol of Enkhuizen's maritime heritage and draws visitors to the area.
