Torgersøy Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Torgersøy Lighthouse
Located west of Tønsberg on the northwestern point of an island in the Oslofjord, Torgersøy is a historic monument. The original lighthouse, first lit in 1851, was removed in 1890. A wooden fog bell tower in a Swiss-chalet style was constructed in 1910; this tower was deactivated and removed in 1983, but a replica was built in 1999, retaining the original bell. The current light emits white, red, or green flashes every 5 seconds, with a geographic range of 7.9 nautical miles. The tower stands 6 meters tall with a focal height of 4 meters.
Why it matters: The Torgersøy station guides vessels around the island's northwestern point near Tønsberg, an area important for navigation within the Oslofjord.
