Built in 1920, Svalbarðseyri Lighthouse is a 8-meter tall cylindrical stone tower painted yellow with a red lantern. It stands on a promontory on the east side of Eyjafjörður, about 6 km north of Akureyri. The lighthouse features a gallery and emits a sequence of flashing white, red, and green lights every 6 seconds, with a geographic range of 10 nautical miles. This structure serves as a navigational aid for vessels on the fjord. The tower's focal plane is 9 meters above sea level.
Why it matters: The lighthouse provides guidance for vessels navigating the eastern side of Eyjafjörður, particularly important for traffic approaching the nearby port of Akureyri.
