Alviðruhamnar Lighthouse, constructed in 1929, is a 20.5-meter square concrete structure. It features a yellow finish and a red lantern room. The light's pattern is three white flashes every 20 seconds, offering a light range of 15.9 nautical miles. Located on the west bank of the Kúðafljót river, about 15 kilometers south of Myrar, the lighthouse underwent repainting in 2008 and continues its function.
Why it matters: This lighthouse serves as a navigation aid for vessels approaching the Kúðafljót river mouth along Iceland's southern shoreline, an area with limited access points.
