About Sléttaeyri Lighthouse
Also known as: Sléttaeyri (Slettunes)
Built in 1949, Sléttaeyri Lighthouse is a 6-meter concrete structure standing 7 meters above sea level. Located on a point of land on the north side of Ísafjörður, about 5 km west of Hesteyri, it is accessible only by boat. The lighthouse emits two white flashes every 10 seconds, with additional red and green sectors. Its design features a two-story building with the lantern and gallery situated on the seaward side of the upper floor. The tower is painted yellow.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's sector light system is important for guiding vessels into and out of the Ísafjörður, marking safe channels and potential hazards.
