The light emits an isophase white, red, and green signal on a 2-second cycle. The lighthouse guides vessels toward the entrance to Laguna Inferior. It is situated on a sand spit approximately 40 kilometers east of Salina Cruz. The surrounding area is noted for oil rigs located to the southeast, beyond the 20-meter depth line.
