About Anegada de Afuera Lighthouse
Also known as: #Anegada de Afuera
A square pyramidal concrete tower, painted white, stands 12 meters tall at Anegada de Afuera. This structure, formerly located about 7 km northwest of the Arrecife Santiaguillo lighthouse, marks the northwestern edge of a large reef. The original lighthouse was replaced sometime before 2017. Currently, an active light operates from a post on site. Its focal height is 10 meters, and it emits a white light with one flash every 16 seconds, visible for 10.4 nautical miles. The site is open to visitors, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This light warns vessels away from the extensive Anegada de Afuera reef, helping to prevent groundings in this area of Mexico's coast.
