About Altamira North Range Rear Lighthouse
Also known as: #Altamira North Range Rear
The Altamira North Range Rear was a 36-meter tall square skeletal steel tower with a red and white vertically striped rectangular daymark. Standing 16 meters above the water, its white light flashed once every 2 seconds, offering guidance within the dredged harbor of Altamira. This structure served as a critical part of the north range for vessels entering the port. The original tower was removed between 2019 and 2020 and replaced by a light on a mast. The range itself has been relocated, adapting to changes in the port's layout or navigational requirements.
Why it matters: The Altamira North Range Rear was essential for guiding commercial vessels through the dredged channel into Altamira's busy harbor. Its removal and replacement highlight the continuous adaptation of navigational aids to modern shipping demands and evolving port infrastructure.
