About Punta La Tonina Lighthouse
Also known as: Punta La Tonina (Bahía de Altata)
This metal skeletal tower, painted white, stands 15 meters tall on the east side of the Altata lagoon entrance. Its focal height is also 15 meters, and it emits a white flash every 10 seconds. Located opposite the mouth of the Río Culiacán, the lighthouse marks the passage into the lagoon. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed. The nearest port is Topolobampo, located 94.1 kilometers away.
Why it matters: The two white flashes from Punta La Tonina warn mariners of the lagoon entrance, helping them avoid hazards in this area where river currents meet coastal waters.
