Pozzallo Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Pozzallo Lighthouse
A semicircular cylindrical concrete tower, 10 meters high, stands on the waterfront at Pozzallo. It displays red and white horizontal bands and rises from the front of the port captain's office, featuring a gallery and a small lantern. The station was established in 1883, with an initial skeletal tower installed in 1905. This was replaced by the current structure in the 1920s or 1930s. The lighthouse has been inactive since 2011, with its light moved to a new tower on the breakwater.
Why it matters: The progression of the Pozzallo lighthouse from a customs house light to a dedicated tower illustrates the growing importance of reliable navigation for the town's maritime activities.
