About Öndverðarnes Lighthouse
Öndverðarnes lighthouse stands at the extreme northwestern tip of the Snæfells Peninsula in Iceland. Built in 1973, its structure consists of a yellow, one-story concrete equipment room topped by a red, four-meter octagonal cast iron lantern. The focal height of the light is eleven meters. This lighthouse emits a single white flash every three seconds, visible for nearly eleven nautical miles. It is located about 2.5 km north of the Svörtuloft lighthouse.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for guiding maritime traffic safely around the exposed northwestern tip of the Snæfells Peninsula, a critical point for vessels traversing the Icelandic coast.
