About Muelle de Chapala Lighthouse

This concrete cylindrical tower, standing 6 meters tall, was built in the 1950s and first lit in 1907. It is located at the end of a long pier in Chapala, a town on the north side of Lake Chapala, about 40 km south of Guadalajara. The lighthouse projects from the end of the pier, with a round pavilion at pier level supported by six posts surrounding its base. It emits a single green flash every 2 seconds and has a geographic range of 8.9 nautical miles. The structure was restored in 2007.

Why it matters: As Mexico's best-known inland lighthouse, it guides local lake traffic, including fishing and tourist vessels, to and from the popular Chapala pier.
