About Muchangpo Hang Lighthouse
A cylindrical concrete tower, 14 meters high, was constructed in 2005 at Muchangpo Hang, South Korea. Its upper half is painted black and the lower half yellow. The structure stands on a round concrete pier, itself mounted on a reef located about 500 meters west of the Muchangpo harbor entrance. This active light emits a quick white flash. The focal height of the light is 16 meters, offering a geographic range of 12.2 nautical miles.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's placement on a reef directly addresses a navigational hazard, aiding the safe passage of fishing vessels and other maritime traffic entering and exiting Muchangpo harbor.
