Situated on the south end of the Galleguilla reef, it lies approximately 4 kilometers north of the Veracruz harbor entrance. The lighthouse was temporarily moved to a buoy in 2020 for restoration work on the tower. The site is open to visitors arriving by sea, but the tower itself is closed to the public.
