About Krísuvíkurberg Lighthouse
A cylindrical masonry tower measuring 5 meters in height was established in 1965 at Krísuvíkurberg, Iceland. The structure features a round lantern atop the tower, which is painted red with a yellow lower section. With a focal height of 60 meters, it emits a white light with a single flash every 10 seconds, visible for over 20 nautical miles. The light station is situated on a bluff approximately 25 km east of Grindavík. While the site is accessible, the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse helps vessels define the coastline when navigating waters off southwestern Iceland, particularly those approaching or departing from nearby ports such as Grindavík, ensuring safe passage through a challenging coastal environment.
