Kokonogi Lighthouse

Fl white 15s🇯🇵Echizen, JPOperational

Also known as: #Kokonogi (Kuro Jogatani)

Established in 1957, this lighthouse stood on a rocky headland at the base of the Kokonogi breakwater, south of Jogatani. The structure consisted of an 8.5-meter white concrete post attached to a square, single-story concrete equipment shelter. For more than fifty years, its white light provided a navigational reference for vessels in the Fukui Prefecture. Its geographic range extended to 17 nautical miles. The lighthouse was deactivated in 2010 and removed shortly thereafter.

Why it matters: The light was essential for local maritime traffic, helping vessels safely navigate the vicinity of the breakwater and approach the harbor.
