About Kitries Lighthouse
Constructed in 1892, the Kitries Lighthouse is situated on Ákra Kitries, a cape within the eastern part of the Gulf of Messenia. The structure is a square stone tower, 11 meters tall, originating from a single-story stone keeper's residence. A lantern and gallery are placed atop, reaching a focal height of 32 meters above sea level. The light produces a white flash pattern of Fl W 12s, with a recorded geographic range of 15.7 nautical miles. This edifice is found about 3 kilometers southwest of the settlement of Kitries, along a rocky shoreline.
Why it matters: This lighthouse serves as a navigation aid for ships approaching the harbour of Kalamata and marks the headland of Ákra Kitries.
