About Ilha Rasa Lighthouse
Constructed in 1829, Ilha Rasa Lighthouse stands 26 meters tall, with its light reaching 101 meters above sea level. The structure features a white cylindrical tower atop a three-story quadrangular base, both built of masonry. It houses one of only two known meso-radiant Fresnel lenses manufactured by Barbier & Bernard. The light emits two white flashes followed by one red flash every 15 seconds. The white light has a range of 51 nautical miles, while the red light extends to 45 nautical miles.
Why it matters: This lighthouse, alongside the Abrolhos lighthouse, is recognized as one of the most powerful maritime lights globally.
