The structure emits a white flash every 6 seconds, visible for 16.2 nautical miles. Originally, the light was housed on an iron pillar before the current concrete tower was established. The lighthouse is located at the south point of Ilha dos Frades, an island in the northern Bahia Todos os Santos, near Salvador. The site is open to the public, but the tower remains closed.
