About Hwataedo Lighthouse
This cylindrical concrete lighthouse, standing 12 meters tall, was built and first lit in 1997. Its tower features a distinctive design with the upper half painted yellow and the lower half black. The light emits a white flash every 15 seconds and has a geographic range of 11 nautical miles. Situated just off the east end of Hwataedo island near Yeosu-si, it serves as a daymark. In 2018, both the daymark and light characteristic were updated. The lighthouse site is accessible to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The Hwataedo lighthouse provides a clear navigational reference for vessels approaching or departing the eastern end of Hwataedo island, contributing to maritime safety in the region.
