About Höskuldsey Lighthouse
A 10-meter-tall, cylindrical concrete tower, painted yellow, is situated on Höskuldsey, an island in Breidafjörður. The light source sits at a focal height of 16 meters. This tower, erected in 1948, succeeded a station that began operation in 1926. The light displays white, red, and green colors, with a flash pattern of Fl WRG 6s. The location is approximately 7.2 kilometers from Stykkishólmur. Access to the site is permitted, but entry into the tower is not.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks the harbour entrance for Stykkishólmur and aids navigation in the shallow, reef-strewn waters of Breidafjörður.
