About Higgs Island Lighthouse
Also known as: #Higgs Island
Located on the northeast corner of Higgs Island, this light marks the south side of the outer entrance to the Town Cut. The original structure was a 12-meter square skeletal tower, painted white with a green top. This tower was removed sometime before 2015. A new post light was established in its place around 2018. The current light displays a continuous green signal from a focal height of 15 meters. The geographic range of the light is 11.9 nautical miles. The site is open to visitors arriving by boat, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This light is critical for vessels navigating the Town Cut, providing a clear marker for the southern side of its outer entrance and aiding safe transit into the harbor.
