About Gyeonnaeryang Lighthouse
Also known as: Gyeonnaeryang (Kyonnaeryang)
This green, cylindrical concrete tower stands 10 meters tall. Its light is positioned 12 meters above the water and emits a green flash every four seconds. The lighthouse is situated in the narrow channel between Geoje and Tongyeong, approximately 5 kilometers northeast of Tongyeong city. It is reachable only by boat, with the nearest port being Tongyeong, 3.6 kilometers away. Visitors can access the site to view the surrounding maritime environment, though the tower itself is not open to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse’s green flash aids navigation through the constricted channel between Geoje and Tongyeong, a route frequently used by local fishing boats and other maritime traffic.
