Flesi Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Flesi Lighthouse
Flesi lighthouse stands on piles in the northern entrance to the Hjeltefjord, near Øygarden, Norway. This pentapod structure, measuring 13 meters tall, features black piles and a white lantern and gallery, topped with a red lantern roof. Its light is 11 meters above sea level and emits white, red, and green flashes in a cycle of 6 seconds. The lighthouse guides vessels through the reef in the sea region, offering a geographic range of 10.7 nautical miles. Although the site is open to visitors who can reach it by boat, the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's sector light warns mariners of the reef it marks within the busy Hjeltefjord. Its unique five-pile pentapod design is a notable example of engineering adapted for a marine environment.
