About Cabo Engaño Lighthouse
Cabo Engaño Lighthouse, a cylindrical fiberglass tower with brown and white horizontal bands, was constructed in 2015. Standing 8 meters tall with a focal height of 9 meters, it emitted a white flash every 5 seconds, visible for 10 nautical miles. The structure featured a round fiberglass tower mounted on a square skeletal base. Although operational for a short period, by 2021 it was listed as inactive. Photographs from November 2021 showed the lighthouse largely destroyed. The site remains open to the public, though the tower is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marked Cabo Engaño, the easternmost point of the Dominican Republic, a significant landmark for vessels transiting between the Atlantic and Caribbean.
