Cabo Samaná Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Cabo Samaná Lighthouse
Established in 1915, the Cabo Samaná lighthouse stands on a steep bluff at the northeastern tip of the Samaná Peninsula. This concrete structure is a square skeletal tower, 19 meters tall and painted white. Its light reached 141 meters above sea level, offering a geographic range of nearly 29 nautical miles. When active, it emitted a single white flash every five seconds. The area surrounding the lighthouse was opened to tourism following the completion of a new highway in 2008, a significant change from its previously remote accessibility.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marked a significant cape projecting eastward along the Dominican Republic's northeastern coast, guiding vessels navigating these waters.
