About Belmonte Lighthouse

The Belmonte Lighthouse, an octagonal pyramidal cast iron skeletal tower, was constructed in 1901. Reaching 34 meters in height, its exterior displays red and white horizontal bands. The structure includes a central cylinder, a lantern, a watchroom, and a gallery, with integrated 2-story keeper's quarters. Originally situated on the north bank of the Jequitinhonha River, the lighthouse was moved to the south side between 1905 and 1907 because of beach erosion. This tower emits a white flash every six seconds (Fl W 6s), offering a range of 16.4 nautical miles. It is located in Belmonte, Bahia.
