Built in 1911, the Banghwado lighthouse is a square steel skeletal tower standing 10 meters tall. It first became operational in 1911 and guided mariners with a white light that flashed once every 4 seconds. The tower rises from a small steel equipment cabinet. Though it ceased operation in 2006, this structure, which has a focal height of 34 meters, was awarded Lighthouse Cultural Heritage designation in September 2019. Its geographic range extended to 16 nautical miles.
